We're proud of our troops!  Photo of Doug, Stacee and their son Ben Snider of USCG on board a 47' Life Boat, what an incredible crew and vessel!  This is one place where your tax dollars are hard at work!

What you need to know before purchasing a backpack!

Before you purchase a backpack, Nimrod can save you a lot of grief, if you review and answer the following questions. You can utilize over two decades of product engineering, research and development and our technical customer service expertise.

What level of quality and durability do you need?
If you rarely venture much further than a half-mile from your truck, you probably have little need to spend hard earned dollars on a high quality pack. On the other hand, if you get out off the beaten path, probing the backwoods, a low cost and low quality pack will prove to be uncomfortable, insufficient and let you down when you need it the most. There is a peace of mind afield knowing your pack will hold up to whatever you throw at, in, or on it. You may loose more dollars in gear spread through the woods, than you ever saved on the poor quality pack that quickly develops split seams and failed zippers, which typifies the saying, "The sweetness of a cheap price is soon bitter by poor quality." Remember, this pack can, and usually does carrying several thousand dollars of sporting gear from spotting scopes, gps, custom knife, rangefinder, radios, calls and much much more. How much should you spend? Like automobiles, packs are offered in a variety of price and quality ranges. They vary from the Geometro class, that is more-less a one season disposable pack, up to the Hum-vee class, that may last your outdoor career. The question is what level of quality can you afford and want for your application? Is the money better spent once for over a decade of use, or a annual expense to replace the blown out uncomfortable unit. I think that the Hum-vee of packs will by far be the better value not to mention much more comfortable and useful.

What functions do you need your pack to perform?
You need to ask yourself, what do I put in and on my pack? This equates to the cubic inch volume of a pack. If you are out for a half day, to a full day, usually a 1000+ cubic inch pack will serve your purpose. A full day to an over-niter may require 2000+ cubic inches of space. It is easy to understand that the larger the pack with more cubic inches of space, will weigh more than a smaller volume unit. If you know what you need in space, you do not want to carry extra weight of a pack that you do not use. Also if the contents you carry is of a concentrated nature or you haul peripheral loads that exceed 20-50 pounds, you need a higher end pack that can tolerate this type of pounding. This pack will weigh more empty than other packs because of its Hum-vee type, tough as nails quality, but well worth it when the going gets tuff. We're not talking pounds here, but ounces.
